Cedar
I want share how #mydogshapedmylife
This is my little lady, Cedar. Her story starts in November of 2014 when she was found in central MN wandering the streets at 6-8 weeks old.
I had no idea that a week later, on Black Friday at a Petco no less, that I would find her. I wasn't even there for a dog, we had two fur children at home already.
As I walked through all the kennels the local rescue had set up, her tiny little bark caught my attention. I went over to her crate, seeing how tiny she was I knew she was just a pup.
I asked the lady running the adoption day her story, when i found out that this little monster was just roaming the frigid streets of central MN in the winter I knew she was going to be a fighter.
I took her out of her crate and carried her around and she immediately fell silent, checking me and our surroundings out.
Needless to say, we brought her home and spent the next several hours thinking of a name that could fit this strong red lady.
This is where the story takes a turn.
The next day, we discovered that my perfect Heeler girl was deaf. It was already a challenge bringing a new rambunctious pup into my pack let alone one who would not be able to hear her older, but tiny, brothers. Our main concern was our 8 lbs Pom, he's the boss and I was fearful he would try to teach her some lessons she couldn't hear.
I started my research, coming to find that many breeders euthanize deaf dogs because it's cheaper than having to support them for months to years before they get bought! We slowly came to the conclusion that a breeder may have "lost" her when they discovered her deafness.
Right then, I knew that I would never give up on her.
My girl and I have spent the last year growing a bond that will last a lifetime. We play frisbee and compete in local competitions. I take her everywhere I can, camping, even Home Depot.
This dog has shown me the compassion that I had inside me just needed to be given a reason to come out.
Because of her, we are also avid members of our local Heeler rescue. Because of her, we've placed dogs In forever homes. Because of her, my life is forever shaped.
Because of her.
