May the Fourth Be With Us

Spring is finally here! Green, blue, purple things popping up all over the place! What an exciting time for us here on the farm. This year is truly going to be different and exciting. We're really doing something we've never done. It's frightening really. But we're starting small, thankfully ;)

Seeing the green gives me hope, and likely an ill-founded confidence, that this new experiment will be not only successful but enjoyable! Even though we're starting small, there is an insurmountable amount of information that we are digesting. Organic is our goal. Having no previous knowledge of farm systems, education is the most important tool we have.

As a consumer, I tried to make thoughtful choices related to my food. I hate buying unsustainable products, especially when it comes to food. I've even seen "shark" for sale at a local grocery store, we don't shop there anymore. I believe in the value of purchasing power. Use your dollar to support others in what you believe in.

Now that I'm working on becoming a producer, I feel even more empowered by my purchasing power. I believe it is even more important in this agricultural climate. We can drive change through our dollar, it's the loudest voice unfortunately. We're planning on putting our dollars into our ability to provide. We are hoping to provide for our local community.

Corn. We are planting sweet corn this year. No seeds are in the ground yet. But they are on their way ;) Organic, Non-GMO, Allure Sweet Corn from High Mowing Seeds.

Chickens are on the way. Will have 5 hens from Waseda Farms in Door County. Ducklings are on the way as well. A local friend has eggs that are about to hatch!

We're not ready. The coop is not done. It's a mess. The land is not prepped for planting. Change takes time. Change is hard work. Change is stressful. 2018 is a total shot in the dark for our family. What is unknown for your 2018?
