Yellow
A favorite color can be so impactful. I’ve always loved yellow. It’s warm, inviting, happy. It’s no surprise that it influences my decisions. Our house in Eden Prairie is yellow. A yellow house full of wonderful memories – bonfires, showers, parties, sleep overs, gardening, crafting, and remodeling (my favorite!). At the beginning of the year we thought to ourselves that we would love (even though we enjoy this house) to have less house and more land. Land we can make our own, work hard for, be proud of. Plant our roots.
The hunt began. Get our house sold and find a new home simultaneously. Stressful. As we looked for a home, nothing stood out in this seller’s market. Nothing West, North, South…..East? Dare we look East?! We expanded our search all the way to River Falls… yes, Wisconsin. Kyle is still rolling over at this idea (he’s coming around). But what we found…. Oh, what we found! None other than a YELLOW house! To add to that, a hobby farm! It was perfect…. It is perfect. Perfect in that “always wanted an old house and a lot of land” kind of way. Perfect in that “It’s going to be a lot of work but so worth it” kind of way. We. Can’t. Wait.
So…. Here we are, leaving our big yellow house….with a smaller yellow house in hand. One that opens doors to many possibilities, dreams, and plans. It is a tad bittersweet as we leave our wonderful neighborhood with some of the best neighbors turned friends one could possibly meet. We know it’s not goodbye, but.. We will miss seeing the Sanfords helping their daughter with her Bugaboo Beverages stand outside selling lemonade or hot cocoa, depending on the weather. Trigger taking his daily walk with Sam and Luke. Seeing all of the Hawes at our door, delivering treats for the holidays. Receiving a jar of cookies from the Gilbertson’s each year. Our game nights with Korey, Kelsey and Kona. The annual block party where we all try our best at making the best dish for the year. Not to forget the wagon races… So many “yellow” memories. A dear friend gave us a beautiful quote in a frame when we moved into the house on Pleasantview Road, it says...
“If I were a house, I’d be a big yellow house,
With a yellow so inviting that if you were to walk by,
Just being you, it would call to you,
”Come In, You and Your Heart sit down.”
And if you did, come into that big, yellow,
inviting house, you’d know you were home.”
It’s so fitting that we can take this quote with us and have it in our new home, still a yellow house. We cannot wait for the new adventures and memories to come. We look forward to making friends with our neighbors, relaxing on the river, working on our land, spending time with family/friends and doing more dog things. You can’t help but make memories when on a new adventure, especially when your adventures involves a big (now a bit smaller) yellow house.
Warm. Inviting. Happy. Yellow.
