XC Adventure
I've never been Cross country skiing before. I've gone down-hill skiing and snowboarding. And growing up in MN, I've done an awful lot of winter activities, sledding and tubing, your general outdoor winter fun stuff. So much time has been spent in the snow I half expected to be able to get clipped in and rocket around like a pro in less than 15 minutes, so of course I chose the "skate skis".
That was not the case. At all.
Within 5 minutes I took a fall. Nothing new really, I've learned from countless skiing/snowboarding accidents that it's better to just let it happen. Less chance to ruin your ankles and legs, in my experience.
Once we were moving along nicely, the one thing that I immediately found to be lacking was speed. I need speed. There's only one activity that I can hack at slow speeds and that's canoeing.
At this point it's looking pretty dismal for XC and me.
We made it to some nice look out areas and there was a large hill connecting the trail down to another extended trail system.
The first thing I thought was literally how to get down it as fast as possible. I knew I was going to fall. But I was confident I would make it at least half way.
In the video you can hear me laughing a little as I start to descend. It was seriously exhilarating! I'm sorry cross country but down-hill has you beat by a million miles.
